Wismar – According to media reports, a significant event in Wismar shipbuilding is scheduled for this coming Saturday, April 19, 2025: The Disney Adventure, one of the world's largest cruise ships, is set to leave the building dock of the Meyer Werft shipyard in Wismar. While official confirmations from the cruise line, Disney Cruise Line, or the shipyard are still pending, preparations for the complex maneuver appear to be already underway.

Until now, few glimpses of the Disney Adventure inside the building dock have been made public. Upon leaving the hall, the imposing newbuild will become visible to the public for the first time in Wismar's harbor. There are indications of ongoing preparations: two tugboats, presumably needed to pull the ship out of the hall, are reportedly en route from Bremerhaven to Wismar. For safety reasons, the path near the Technology and Business Center close to the Old Harbor, a popular spot for spectators, will be temporarily closed on Saturday.

Currently, only unofficial information exists regarding the exact timing of the undocking maneuver, with slight variations. However, it is presumed that the Disney Adventure will be maneuvered out of the dock hall during Saturday morning and subsequently moored at an outfitting pier. There, Meyer Werft Wismar will continue the final completion of the ship for Disney Cruise Line. Components such as two distinctive funnels have already been spotted on the shipyard premises for several weeks. Furthermore, extensive tests of the machinery and propulsion systems are planned in Wismar's harbor in the coming months before the ship can embark on sea trials in the Baltic Sea.

The timeline for the final handover to the cruise line and the definitive departure from Wismar has not yet been announced. What is certain, however, is that the Disney Adventure must set sail for Southeast Asia by autumn 2025 at the latest. Her maiden voyage is scheduled to commence from Singapore on December 15, 2025. With a length of 342 meters, a width of 46 meters, and a gross tonnage (GT) of 208,000, this newbuild will be the largest cruise ship ever completed in Germany.

The ship has a turbulent history: It was originally part of an order for two large cruise ships placed by the Asian cruise line Dream Cruises with the former MV Werften shipyard. Due to the economic turmoil caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the parent company Genting Hong Kong encountered financial difficulties, leading to the insolvency and liquidation of both MV Werften and Dream Cruises. The insolvency administrator successfully found a buyer for the partially built ship in Disney Cruise Line. Work on an identical sister ship, which was still in its early stages, was discontinued.

Disney Adventure Ship Specifications:

  • Length: 342 meters
  • Width: 46 meters
  • Gross Tonnage: 208,000 GT
  • Builder: MV Werften (until insolvency) / Meyer Wismar (completion)
  • Guest Cabins/Suites: approx. 2350
  • Maximum Guest Capacity: approx. 6700
  • Crew Members: approx. 2500
