Currently, on its third anniversary, AIDAcosma is underway, transitioning from the Canary Islands to the Mediterranean Sea. The ship concluded its 2024/25 winter season in the Canaries last weekend with a final passenger changeover in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. Next weekend, it will commence its 2025 summer season in the Mediterranean, starting with guest embarkation in Palma de Mallorca. AIDAcosma's design, particularly the open Ocean Deck at the stern and its spacious outdoor areas, makes the ship ideally suited for deployment in warmer climate zones.
AIDAcosma was constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany. It is the second ship in the Helios class for AIDA Cruises, completing this series. Together with its sister ship, AIDAnova, AIDAcosma set new standards in the cruise industry through its advanced propulsion system using emission-reduced Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). It is noted, however, that LNG, as a fossil fuel, represents a transitional technology. Additionally, an onboard shore power connection allows for nearly emission-free operation while docked in ports with compatible infrastructure.
AIDAcosma will remain the youngest vessel in the AIDA fleet until the spring of 2030. Only then, more than eight years after AIDAcosma's delivery in December 2021, is the introduction of the first ship of a new generation planned. AIDA Cruises recently commissioned two newbuilds from the Italian Fincantieri shipyard. These vessels, with a gross tonnage (GT) of approximately 150,000 and around 2,100 cabins, will be slightly smaller than AIDAcosma.
AIDAcosma's Current Itinerary (April 5 - 12, 2025): Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) – Arrecife (Lanzarote) – Sea Day – Cadiz – Sea Day – Alicante – Barcelona – Palma de Mallorca
