The record attempt took place during the ship’s transfer voyage from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, to Miami, where it will be officially christened on April 12, 2024. More than 1,000 crew members participated, linking 1,391 LEGO® ships into an 89-meter-long formation—a remarkable milestone in cruise industry history.

A Record-Breaking Team Effort in Record Time

Under the leadership of Captain Dino Sagani, the impressive LEGO® fleet was constructed along the World Galleria on Deck 6. Each ship took approximately five minutes to build, totaling nearly 116 hours of collective effort. Yet, the crew completed the entire chain in under two hours—a testament to their coordination and efficiency. An official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ adjudicator oversaw the attempt and validated its success.

Entertainment Partnerships with LEGO® and GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™

This achievement highlights MSC Cruises’ collaborations with LEGO® and GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™. Since 2023, the cruise line has offered guests the chance to break official records onboard—from fastest rope-pulling to rapid chair-spinning challenges. To date, passengers and crew have set an impressive 40 records.

The MSC World America will further elevate onboard entertainment, featuring the first LEGO® parade at sea, a LEGO® Family Game Show, and an interactive LEGO® building zone for all ages.

A Lasting Memento for the Crew

In recognition of their accomplishment, each participating crew member received an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ certificate and one of the LEGO® ships as a keepsake. The record will also be published in the 2026 edition of the Guinness World Records book.

Steve Leatham, Vice President of Entertainment at MSC Cruises, emphasized: “Our partnerships with LEGO® and GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ create unforgettable experiences. This record proves how teamwork and creativity can push boundaries.”

Matteo Mancini, Family Entertainment Development Director, added: “On MSC World America, we’re redefining family entertainment with activities that bridge generations.”

With this record, MSC Cruises once again demonstrates that cruising is not just about travel—it’s about creating extraordinary memories.
