Cruise Lines Surprise Passengers with Humorous April Fools’ Jokes
On April 1, 2025, AIDA Cruises and nicko cruises once again showcased their playful creativity. AIDA introduced an unconventional shore excursion involving hobby horses, while nicko cruises announced an onboard farm with live animals. Of course, these were all lighthearted April Fools’ Day pranks—though crafted with impressive attention to detail.

Other major cruise lines, such as TUI Cruises and MSC Cruises, remained noticeably quiet this year. In previous years, international operators had delivered far more outlandish April Fools’ concepts.

AIDA Cruises: "Hobby Horsing" as a Unique Shore Experience
Who would have thought adults would gallop through port cities on stick horses? AIDA Cruises brought this amusing idea to life with a dedicated microsite showcasing the "Over Hill and Dale" excursions, complete with mock promotional images. Even the obligatory "petting" of the wooden horse was included. For safety reasons, the promo code "HAHAHA25" was required to "rent" a helmet—just in case the riding got too wild.

While the campaign was clearly absurd, it demonstrated how cruise lines use humor to engage their audience. Though not a real offering, it leaves one wondering: Who wouldn’t want to trot around a cruise ship on a stick horse, if only for a laugh?
