At the time of the incident, 143 passengers were on board the cruise ship, including individuals with limited mobility. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The Emmerich Water Police immediately launched an investigation and boarded the damaged vessel. The freighter, however, sustained only minor damage.
With an escort from fire department and police boats, the cruise ship was guided to the nearest docking point in Wesel, where all passengers were safely evacuated. Since the ship could no longer continue its journey, it was sent to a Dutch shipyard for repairs.
The Duisburg Water Police detained the freighter after its captain became the prime suspect of alcohol intoxication. He was taken into custody, where a blood test was ordered. Investigations are ongoing, and the captain now faces potential legal consequences. Authorities are currently clarifying the exact circumstances of the collision.
