Norwegian Cruise Line and Fincantieri Finalize Construction of Four Mega Cruise Ships Starting in 2030
The new ships, initially announced in April 2024 as part of a comprehensive order, will each accommodate approximately 5,100 passengers. This figure is based on standard occupancy with two guests per cabin. At full capacity, including crew, the ships can host up to 8,300 people. Further details about the vessels, which are set to enter service in the early 2030s, are expected to be revealed in the coming years.
Before the new class of ships is launched, NCL will take delivery of four additional newbuilds from Fincantieri. These include the "Norwegian Aqua," scheduled for delivery in 2025, followed by its sister ship, "Norwegian Luna," in 2026. Two more ships from the Prima Plus class, whose names have yet to be announced, will follow in 2027 and 2028.
The new ship class represents a milestone for NCL, as it will set new standards not only in size but also in technology and sustainability. The vessels will be built to the highest standards, offering both exceptional comfort and environmentally friendly innovations.
Fincantieri has a long-standing partnership with NCL, having previously delivered ships such as the "Norwegian Prima" and "Norwegian Viva." The "Norwegian Aqua," the first ship in the Prima Plus class, will soon enter service. Additionally, three more ships are currently in the planning and construction phases, further strengthening the cruise line's fleet.
This agreement underscores the long-term collaboration between Norwegian Cruise Line and Fincantieri and highlights the confidence in the future of the cruise industry. The new ships will not only expand NCL's capacity but also redefine passenger expectations for luxury, comfort, and sustainability.
