On Sunday afternoon, the AIDAdiva departed Palma de Mallorca after the last passengers disembarked. By Monday morning, the oldest ship in the AIDA fleet arrived at the Chantiers Naval de Marseille shipyard. A dry dock was already prepared, allowing the AIDAdiva to dock immediately. Previously, the Carnival Sunshine had utilized this facility, which is now fully dedicated to the modernization of the AIDAdiva.
In Marseille, long-term plans by AIDA Cruises are being put into action. As the first ship of the Sphinx class, the AIDAdiva will be equipped with an expanded selection of restaurants, new bars, modernized cabins, and additional service offerings. Special attention is being given to the creation of exclusive areas for suite guests, as well as family-friendly amenities tailored to the needs of travelers with children.
For all parties involved—from the crew to the shipyard workers and numerous partner companies—an intensive work phase now begins. The schedule is tight, and the tension is palpable. The AIDAdiva crew, under the command of Captain Boris Becker, will remain on board during the dry dock period, taking on tasks that differ from regular guest operations.
Starting March 23, 2025, the AIDAdiva will be ready to welcome passengers once again. The first three spring voyages will depart from Civitavecchia, Italy, heading to Malta and other Italian destinations. Following a summer season in Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea, the AIDAdiva will embark on a special highlight during the 2025/26 winter season: its first world cruise.
This comprehensive renovation marks a new chapter in the history of the AIDAdiva, underscoring AIDA Cruises' commitment to providing guests with a contemporary and comfortable cruise experience.
