Revolutionary Perspectives: Celebrity Cruises Plans New Ship Class to Succeed the Edge Class

Celebrity Cruises is working on an innovative ship class expected to replace the Edge Class in the 2030s. Operating under the project name „Project Nirvana,“ the company is currently in a „Dreaming“ phase, focusing on developing concepts and ideas for these new ships. This early planning stage indicates that no concrete designs or construction contracts have been finalized yet.

Edge Class: Final Ship Set for Delivery in 2025

Before the new ship class becomes a reality, Celebrity Cruises is preparing for the delivery of Celebrity Xcel next year. This vessel will mark the fifth and final ship of the Edge Class, which has been built by French shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique since 2018. To date, four ships in this series have been completed, and no further newbuild orders for Celebrity Cruises have been placed after the Celebrity Xcel.

Innovative Highlights at Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises is renowned for groundbreaking innovations in its ship designs. The Edge Class, for example, features the „Magic Carpet,“ a movable external platform, and the „Rooftop Garden,“ adorned with real plants. Earlier, the Solstice Class ships, built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, stood out with their real grass areas in outdoor spaces. It is anticipated that the new ship class will also feature unique and revolutionary innovations.

Planning and Future Outlook for the Next Ship Class

The development of the new ship class is expected to take several more years. In addition to the planning and ordering stages, the availability of European shipyards must be considered, as they are currently heavily booked through the late 2020s. Consequently, the launch of the first ships in this new series is unlikely before the early 2030s.
