A highlight of the marathon was the 24-hour Inclusion Challenge, under the patronage of Kristina Vogel. A team of around 30 AIDA employees participated in a 250-meter obstacle course using wheelchairs. The relay team included both employees who regularly use wheelchairs and those who do not. Participants faced various challenges along the course, such as navigating uneven surfaces, carpets, and ramps, simulating everyday obstacles for wheelchair users.
In addition to the Inclusion Challenge, AIDA Cruises supported other initiatives linked to the RTL Charity Marathon, such as the “Happy Helpers” social media campaign and the VIP Laugh Challenge. Together, these activities helped raise the impressive total donation of €100,000.
Of this amount, €76,000 was donated to the RTL Children’s House "Die ARCHE Rostock," located at AIDA Cruises’ headquarters in Rostock. The remaining €24,000 was allocated to projects of the “RTL Foundation – We Help Children e.V.,” supporting children in need.
Alexander Ewig, Senior Vice President Marketing & Sales at AIDA Cruises, emphasized:
“This year’s 24-hour Inclusion Challenge brought an important societal issue to the forefront. Inclusion and accessibility are core values at AIDA, and we are proud to work closely with the AIDA Expert Council to continuously improve accessibility on our ships. It brings us great joy to present a record donation of €100,000 for children in need.”
About the AIDA Expert Council:
Established in May 2022 under the patronage of Kristina Vogel, the AIDA Expert Council focuses on improving accessibility on AIDA ships. The council advises the company from the perspective of diverse guest and interest groups. Through regular discussions and initiatives, measures are developed to ensure a barrier-free and enjoyable travel experience for all guests.
Summary:
AIDA Cruises once again demonstrates its commitment to social responsibility with a record donation of €100,000 at the RTL Charity Marathon 2024. By actively participating in the 24-hour Inclusion Challenge and supporting several other charity initiatives, AIDA sets a strong example of how businesses can drive positive change for children in need and promote inclusion.
