The berth originally assigned to AIDAprima was occupied by a car carrier. Waiting for the berth to become available would have caused several hours of delay. Instead, Captain Miklitza announced that the ship would dock at an alternative berth within the port. This decision ensured that the planned shore excursions could begin on time or with minimal delays.
However, it was noted that a berth change might be necessary later in the day, as the alternative berth only offers two meters of clearance beneath the ship's keel. For safety reasons, the gangway was set up on Deck 6. Passengers were informed that any updates regarding a potential berth change would be communicated.
This minor delay had little to no impact on the guests. According to the itinerary, AIDAprima is scheduled to stay in Port Elizabeth until the evening of November 21, giving passengers ample time to explore the area. The overnight stop also allows guests to enjoy onshore activities late into the evening or at night.
As is customary during maiden calls, a formal plaque exchange ceremony will take place between port officials and the ship’s representatives. After this stop, AIDAprima will continue her journey to the Orient, where she is stationed for the winter season 2024/2025. In spring 2025, the ship will return to Europe, ensuring her timely arrival in Germany for the Northern Europe summer cruise season.
