Hamburg is set to see an increase in cruise ship calls in 2025. According to Cruise Gate Hamburg (CGH), the city expects a total of 294 calls from 45 different ships and 21 cruise lines – a significant rise compared to 268 calls in 2024. This growth underscores Hamburg’s continued importance as a key destination in maritime tourism.

A highlight for cruise enthusiasts next year will be the three inaugural calls: Star Pride by Windstar Cruises, Emerald Princess by Princess Cruises, and Pacific World by Japan Grace will dock in Hamburg for the first time. In addition to ocean-going cruise ships, the city will also welcome 39 calls from river cruise ships, further diversifying its offerings.

Simone Maraschi, Managing Director of CGH, expressed his enthusiasm about the strong demand: “The rising number of calls reflects the strong partnerships with cruise lines and the passengers’ continued desire to travel, especially in Germany. Over 30 percent of the calls are scheduled outside the peak season, highlighting Hamburg’s appeal as a year-round destination.”

A major milestone for Hamburg’s cruise sector in 2025 will be the opening of the new cruise terminal in HafenCity. Iris Scheel, also Managing Director of CGH, stated: “The new terminal offers cruise lines a central and modern location in the heart of a vibrant district. For our cruise guests, the direct connection to public transportation, including a dedicated subway station, will make arrivals and departures especially convenient.”

The terminal spans 10,000 square meters, including two underground levels for bus and taxi services and two levels for passenger processing. It also features two berths equipped with shore power connections. This development will further enhance Hamburg’s status as a cruise hub, both economically and as a tourist destination.

The cruise industry already makes a significant contribution to Hamburg’s economy, supporting approximately 4,490 jobs and generating a gross value of around €419.7 million. As a growing sector, the cruise industry offers the city numerous opportunities for future development.

In addition to regular cruise operations, Hamburg will host several maritime events. During the 836th Hamburg Port Anniversary from May 9 to 11, 2025, the city will welcome seven cruise ships. Another highlight will be the Hamburg Cruise Days from September 12 to 14, 2025. Featuring ten cruise ships and spectacular performances on the water, this event attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors. The international trade fair Seatrade Europe will take place in Hamburg just before the Cruise Days.

On the international stage, Hamburg will be promoted as a premier cruise destination at the Seatrade Cruise Global conference and trade fair in Miami in April 2025, further strengthening its visibility within the industry.
