Disney Treasure rescues sailor from sinking catamaran in the Atlantic
Immediately after receiving the distress call, the Disney Treasure changed its route and set course for the stricken Serenity. The ship accelerated to maximum speed in order to reach the stranded sailors as quickly as possible. On Sunday afternoon, the crew launched a lifeboat to safely evacuate the four people from the sinking catamaran. The sailors were successfully brought on board the cruise ship.
Marco Nogara, the captain of the Disney Treasure, spoke about the rescue operation in an interview with ABC News: “We are glad that we were able to help the sailors in their distress. Our crew did a great job working together and impressively demonstrated both their training and commitment to safety.”
The Disney Treasure was only handed over to Disney Cruise Line by Meyer Werft in October 2024. The ship began its first Atlantic crossing on October 29, 2024, under the leadership of an experienced captain from the Disney fleet. After a stopover in Funchal on Madeira, the cruise ship continued on its course towards Port Canaveral in the USA, where it is expected to make its first official port call on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
