The Hamburg-based shipping company TUI Cruises is currently preparing its nautical crew intensively for the new InTUItion Class ships Mein Schiff Relax and Mein Schiff Flow. As the propulsion systems of these newbuilds are fundamentally different from the systems previously used in the Mein Schiff fleet, the future captains and staff captains are taking part in a special five-day training course at the MTC Marine Training Center in Hamburg.

During this training, TUI Cruises accompanied Captain Jan Fortun and Staff Captain Phillip Lellau with a camera to document insights into the special features of the new Azipod propulsion system. In contrast to the previous Mein Schiff ships, which are equipped with conventional propellers and rudders, the newbuilds have Azipod nacelles that can rotate in all directions. This technology significantly increases the ship's maneuverability and allows more precise turning maneuvers.

The training focused on the handling of these Azipod systems so that the navigators are optimally prepared for the requirements of operating the new ships. Captain Fortun and Staff Captain Lellau carried out various manoeuvres to familiarize themselves fully with the control of the Azipod drives. Captain Fortun is expected to take command of Mein Schiff Relax next year. Thomas Roth, who is already the start-up captain of the newbuild, is currently accompanying the construction phase at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone and has presumably already completed the Azipod training.

According to current plans, Mein Schiff Relax will be delivered in spring 2025 and set sail on her maiden voyage in the western Mediterranean on March 16, 2025. The ship's christening is scheduled for April 9, 2025 in the port of Malaga and will be accompanied by the presence of fleet sisters Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 7. During the inaugural season in summer 2025, Mein Schiff Relax will be deployed for Mediterranean cruises from Palma de Mallorca.
