Disney Treasure: Disney's Newest Cruise Giant Embarks on Atlantic Crossing

On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the Disney Treasure set sail for the first time under the flag of Disney Cruise Line. Just five days after the official handover by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, the new cruise ship left the port of Eemshaven in the Netherlands. The Disney Treasure's first route will now take it to Funchal on Madeira before continuing across the Atlantic to the USA, where the ship's christening ceremony is scheduled to take place in New York City later this month.

In addition to the crew, a number of invited guests are already on board to share their first impressions of the new ship. Disney Cruise Line is sure to unveil the Disney Treasure in a major media appearance during the christening event in New York City on November 19 and 20, 2024. Disney Cruise Line still has time to finalize the ship's preparations for guest service, as the first official maiden voyage is scheduled for December 21, 2024.

The Disney Treasure is the first sister ship to the Disney Wish, which entered service in 2022. Interestingly, the handover by Meyer Werft took place six days earlier than planned. Disney Cruise Line, one of the Papenburg shipyard's most important customers, is expecting another ship, the Disney Destiny, in 2025. In addition, four more newbuilds of a new ship class are on the schedule for delivery between 2027 and 2031.

The Disney Treasure will be based in Port Canaveral, Florida, in the coming years and will offer week-long cruises to the Western and Eastern Caribbean. The newbuild's schedule extends until spring 2026 and only includes Caribbean voyages, which is why no further European voyages are planned for the ship after the Atlantic crossing in the USA for the time being.
