According to the U.S. National Science Foundation's National Solar Observatory, a total solar eclipse will occur on August 12, 2026, visible across the Arctic Ocean, Greenland, Iceland, the Atlantic, Portugal, and Spain.

Luxury cruise line Seabourn has strategically positioned two of its ships, the Seabourn Ovation and the Seabourn Sojourn, to give their guests the chance to observe this rare celestial event from onboard. Both ships offer specially designed solar eclipse cruises for a unique experience.

"West Ireland Gems & Solar Eclipse" aboard Seabourn Ovation

Seabourn Ovation will depart on August 8, 2026, for a 14-day voyage titled "West Ireland Gems & Solar Eclipse." The cruise sails from Dover to Reykjavik, Iceland, stopping at less frequented ports in Western Ireland, including Galway and Killybegs. On August 12, the ship will position itself in the Atlantic off the coast of Ireland, allowing guests to enjoy a prime view of the total solar eclipse. A special feature of this cruise is the "Seabourn Conversations" program, where Jane A. Green, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, will provide insightful lectures about the solar eclipse.

This two-week cruise is part of a series of Northern Europe voyages offered by Seabourn Ovation during the summer of 2026.

"Spanish Gems & Solar Eclipse" aboard Seabourn Sojourn

Seabourn Sojourn offers another solar eclipse cruise: the 10-day "Spanish Gems & Solar Eclipse," departing from Barcelona on August 7, 2026. The itinerary includes stops in Spanish Morocco, St. Tropez, and other destinations along the Spanish coast. On August 12, the ship will be located in the Balearic Sea, off the Spanish coast, for the solar eclipse. Dallas Campbell, a well-known science presenter, author, and broadcaster, will be part of the "Seabourn Conversations" program, delivering lectures on the eclipse during this journey.

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience Aboard Seabourn's Fleet

"Watching the solar eclipse from our ultra-luxury ships will be an unforgettable 'Seabourn Moment' for everyone onboard," said Natalya Leahy, President of Seabourn. The Seabourn team has curated a series of captivating lectures and experiences centered around the eclipse to ensure this celestial event becomes a remarkable celebration for all guests.

Bookings for the 2026 solar eclipse cruises, as well as the full 2026 European season, will open on October 10.
