The offer quickly caused a lot of commotion on board. Smart calculators realized that combining a balcony cabin with an X-Pass was often significantly cheaper than booking a suite. The actual target group, who had paid a lot of money for peace and exclusivity, felt bypassed. Suddenly, the retreats became crowded. During peak times, there were waiting lists, and the dreaded reserving of sunbeds found its way onto the premium deck.
Loyal regular guests reacted with massive criticism. Some even turned their backs on the cruise line and switched to smaller luxury providers. Travel agencies experienced the anger on the front lines and reflected the concentrated frustration directly back to TUI Cruises. The shipping company was under pressure and had to react to prevent long-term damage to the brand.
In mid-July 2026, TUI Cruises finally pulled the plug. The X-Pass was removed from regular advance sales. Fortunately, those who have already booked the package will still be allowed to use it on their upcoming trip. In the future, access to the X-Areas will only be sold spontaneously and directly on board. However, this will only happen if the suites are not fully booked and there are genuinely free spots available. A true feeling of exclusivity simply cannot be divided up into day passes.
