Those who have already booked will not be left out in the cold. Affected guests will receive a voucher as compensation. This provides a ten percent discount on the previous cabin price for a new booking made by the end of 2026. Sales partners are also protected: travel agency commissions will be retained in the event of a rebooking.
Instead of sunshine in the Orient, there will now be winter holidays in the North. The AIDAperla will remain in Northern Europe during the 2027/2028 winter and will depart from the ports of Kiel and Warnemünde. Cruises to Scandinavia and extra-long "Great Winter Breaks" towards the Canary Islands are planned. The ship is perfectly equipped for this damp and cold weather: the UV-permeable foil dome over the Beach Club offers a tropical climate on board even in freezing outside temperatures. Details on these new routes will follow at the end of July 2026.
AIDA is not alone in the industry with this step. TUI Cruises, MSC Cruises, and Costa Cruises have also withdrawn ships from the Persian Gulf. Very high insurance premiums and the risk to civilian ships in the Red Sea currently make the classic winter destinations in the Orient logistically and financially unpredictable for the cruise lines.
