The AIDAnova is currently stuck in Bergen. The cruise ship was actually supposed to be on its way to Flåm, but a technical defect is forcing the ocean liner to take a mandatory break in Norway. The ship has been safely moored at its berth since arriving on June 29, 2026, while specialists work on fixing the problem. Unfortunately, this means the planned stop in picturesque Flåm has been cancelled.

The delay is caused by an issue with the state-of-the-art Azipod propulsion system. These special propulsion pods under the ship can rotate 360 degrees, making a conventional rudder obsolete. However, since navigating the narrow Norwegian fjords requires extreme precision, the cruise line is taking no chances. Without full steering power and absolute reliability, sailing through the fjord landscapes with their strong katabatic winds would simply be too dangerous.

A small silver lining for the environment and the residents of Bergen: The AIDAnova is perfectly equipped to protect nature even during longer stays in port. The LNG-powered ship is connected to the port's modern shore power system. This allows the onboard engines to be completely shut down, meaning the unplanned stay is entirely emission-free and without disruptive engine noise.

For the passengers on board, the holiday schedule is now changing a bit. Excursions in Flåm, such as a ride on the famous Flåm Railway, have been cancelled. Naturally, AIDA Cruises is automatically refunding the costs for booked excursions. In addition, guests can expect a proportional refund of the travel price as well as goodwill vouchers for future trips. At least this leaves more time to extensively explore the beautiful port city of Bergen.
