From May 8 to 10, 2026, the Hanseatic city will celebrate the 837th Hamburg Port Anniversary under the motto "We celebrate Hamburg's heart." This maritime mega-event attracts over a million visitors annually and combines the long tradition of seafaring with modern innovations. This year, the British Liverpool City Region is presenting itself as the official partner region. This partnership focuses not only on shared pop-cultural roots but also on pioneering maritime environmental technologies.

The centerpiece of the festival is the impressive fleet of over 250 ships. A special highlight is the return of the Norwegian tall ship "Statsraad Lehmkuhl" after 37 years. The over 100-year-old vessel will lead the grand arrival parade on Friday and also brings an important ecological message for the protection of the oceans. The event also has a lot to offer technologically: Modern research vessels like the "Atair" or the multi-purpose ship "Neuwerk" demonstrate the current state of maritime safety. In parallel, AIDA Cruises is celebrating its 30th anniversary and positioning three ships from its fleet in the port. The cruise line's focus here is heavily on the climate-friendly expansion of shore power facilities.

On the water, spectators can expect a tightly scheduled program. The traditional opening church service on Friday at noon is followed by the grand arrival parade. On Saturday afternoon, the powerful harbor tugs show off their enormous maneuverability during the world-famous tugboat ballet. The visual climax is provided by the grand harbor fireworks on Saturday evening starting at 10:45 PM. On Sunday afternoon, the ships set off again towards the North Sea during the departure parade. Those watching the parades from an escort boat often have the best view to port and starboard of the lively activity in the harbor basin.

A diverse program is also offered on land. The large floating stage for "Elbe in Concert" brings numerous live acts right in front of the Landungsbrücken for short, fast-paced performances. Those who prefer electronic music will find what they are looking for at the "Harbour Beatz" festival near StrandPauli. The festival relies on a clever deposit system to prevent waste and donate proceeds to charitable causes. In this way, the Port Anniversary successfully combines maritime traditions, sustainable concepts, and an objective yet exciting event program.
