AIDAbella Shines in New Splendor: Multi-Million Refit Successfully Completed

The AIDAbella is back at sea! After an intensive seven-week stay at the shipyard in Marseille, France, the cruise ship returned to regular service on March 11, 2026. With an investment volume of around 100 million euros, this comprehensive modernization is part of the large-scale "AIDA Evolution" program. AIDA Cruises aims to make the proven ships of the Sphinx class fit for the future. Instead of building new ships, the existing fleet is being modernized for the next 15 to 20 years. This not only saves the budget but is also economically and ecologically highly sensible. The festive premiere voyage started as scheduled in Palma de Mallorca.

Special attention was paid to sustainability during the modernization. In the spirit of the circular economy, 45,000 square meters of old carpets were recycled and processed into new high-tech yarn. In addition, 18 tons of aluminum were salvaged, and 5,100 intact pieces of furniture were donated to charitable organizations. There were also important updates beneath the water's surface: A new, biocide-free underwater coating minimizes flow resistance, thus reducing fuel consumption without polluting the sea with chemical toxins. New reverse osmosis systems also ensure efficient and environmentally friendly drinking water production directly from the ocean.

There are many exciting new features for passengers to discover on board. Those who prefer exclusivity can look forward to six new, spacious suites at the stern of the ship, as well as the brand-new Sky Deck. The AIDAbella has also significantly upgraded its culinary offerings: The Pan-Asian East Fusion Restaurant and the Lanai Bar, which visually hovers over the water, expand the already extensive dining range. The heart of the ship, the well-known Theatrium, now shines in a new, cozier color concept. To create a more relaxed atmosphere, the casino was also moved from the starboard to the port side.

Families and wellness enthusiasts will also get their money's worth after the refit. While children can conquer the new Fun Park on Deck 14 with its giant climbing tower, those seeking tranquility can find pure relaxation in the new private Wellness Suites. Teenagers can retreat to the modernized Game Center. After this highly successful refit, the next fleet project has already been determined: At the end of 2026, the AIDAmar will be renewed as part of the "AIDA Evolution", before further sister ships follow by 2028.
