Mein Schiff 4: TUI Cruises Completely Cancels Trans-Journey from Dubai
The cancellation of this world-explorer route is an enormous logistical and financial setback. Since the Red Sea was already impassable due to ongoing attacks on commercial ships, the journey around the African continent was considered a safe alternative route. Now, however, the Persian Gulf has also become an absolute dead end. The Mein Schiff 4 simply cannot leave its current cruising area. Even nautical transfer voyages of the fleet without passengers are currently ruled out due to incalculable security risks.
For the cruise line, the sole focus in recent days has therefore been the safety of its guests. Around 2,500 passengers of the Mein Schiff 4 had to be evacuated under extremely difficult conditions. Because civilian air traffic around Dubai was massively disrupted, TUI Cruises organized an unprecedented land bridge. The vacationers were safely transported by bus caravan to Oman. From there, specially chartered flights took off to bring the guests safely to Frankfurt.
Travelers whose trans-journey to Cape Town has now been completely canceled without replacement are legally fully protected. Due to official travel warnings, the principle of force majeure applies. Customers have the unrestricted right to a full refund of their paid travel price. Those who wish to remain loyal to the company can alternatively convert the amount into a future cruise credit with no expiration date. As a thank you, TUI Cruises grants a 10 percent discount on the next cruise in this case. This way, the planned time out at sea can easily be relocated to a calmer cruising area later on.
