Disney Adventure: Robert Downey Jr. Christens New Cruise Giant
The history of the cruise ship's construction is remarkable. It was originally designed as the "Global Dream" for the Asian market at the German MV Werften shipyards. Following the insolvency of the client, Disney purchased the unfinished hull and had it completed by the Meyer Werft shipyard. With a gross tonnage of 208,108 GT and a capacity for up to 6,700 passengers, the ship breaks internal company records. Its propulsion system is particularly innovative: As one of the first cruise ships worldwide, the Disney Adventure is powered by green methanol. This fuel reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 95 percent and almost completely eliminates particulate matter.
Since the ship will primarily offer short three- to four-night trips from Singapore without port stops ("Cruises to Nowhere"), it acts as a self-sufficient destination in itself. Passengers can look forward to seven elaborately designed themed areas. The highlight on the upper deck is "Marvel Landing." Here, guests will find the "Ironcycle Test Run"—the first and, at over 250 meters, longest roller coaster on a Disney ship, reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h.
The culinary concept has also been specifically adapted to the new Asian market. In addition to Disney's signature entertainment shows and restaurants, the ship features numerous Asian specialties—from high-class Teppanyaki to exclusive tea lounges and bubble tea. With this blend of cutting-edge maritime technology, renowned entertainment brands, and regional adaptation, Disney is successfully tapping into a completely new target audience in Asia.
