A routine border control check at the Ostseekai terminal in Kiel on Sunday, February 8, 2026, nearly marked the end of a trip for a 24-year-old vacationer before the ship even set sail. Federal Police officers discovered an outstanding arrest warrant for theft while checking the man's details. Since he was unable to pay the four-digit fine required to avert imprisonment on the spot, he faced immediate incarceration instead of his planned relaxation on board the AIDAprima.

faced with this predicament, the man contacted his employer. The employer reacted with unusual speed and cooperation, paying the required amount at a police station near his residence to save his employee's vacation. Once authorities officially confirmed receipt of the payment, the arrest warrant was cancelled. The 24-year-old was allowed to leave the station and managed to board the cruise ship just in time before departure.
