MSC Poesia: Cruise Cancellations Feb 2026 & New Yacht Club

Anyone who had planned a "Grand Voyage" or a relaxing winter escape on the MSC Poesia for February 2026 will unfortunately have to reschedule. On Monday morning, January 12, 2026, rumors that had been circulating on social media over the weekend were confirmed: The cruise line is taking the ship out of service earlier than planned to prepare it for new missions.

The cancellations affect voyages originally scheduled between February 8 and February 23, 2026. This particularly impacts guests who planned to depart from Hamburg (Feb 8), Le Havre (Feb 12), or Southampton (Feb 13) heading towards the Mediterranean. Instead of carrying passengers along the Western European coast into the sun, the ship will now sail directly—without guests—to the shipyard in Malta.

Why this sudden change of course? It is not due to a technical defect, but rather a strategic decision. In the summer of 2026, the MSC Poesia is scheduled to be deployed in North America for the highly sought-after Alaska routes out of Seattle for the first time.

To compete with established local leaders in the demanding US market, the MSC Poesia is receiving a massive upgrade: The popular MSC Yacht Club. This exclusive "ship-within-a-ship" concept has been missing from this Musica-class vessel, built in 2008, until now.

The installation of new suites and pool areas on the upper decks, as well as necessary technical adjustments for strict environmental regulations in Alaska (such as shore power connections), require more time than originally anticipated. Experiences during the renovation of her sister ship, MSC Magnifica, likely demonstrated that a standard shipyard stay would not be sufficient here.

Anyone who has been on board knows: When standing at the railing looking out at the sea while heading south, the European mainland is usually on the port side (left). Unfortunately, guests booked for February will miss out on this view. In return, the ship will be brought up to date not only visually but also technically at the Palumbo Shipyard in Malta.

Compensation for Affected Guests

MSC Cruises is aware of the inconvenience and is offering generous terms. According to current information, affected guests will receive:

  • A full refund of the cruise fare.
  • Additionally, a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) worth 50% of the paid cruise fare for a future booking.
