Following a scheduled first day at sea, the port of Newcastle upon Tyne in England was called upon as planned on Sunday. However, the subsequent route had to be altered at short notice. Due to forecasts predicting strong winds for the Scottish coast, the ship's command has decided to cancel the scheduled calls to Aberdeen, Scotland, and Lerwick on the Shetland Islands, which were planned for Monday and Tuesday.
This decision was made with the safety of everyone on board in mind. The large windage area of a cruise ship can make maneuvering in ports difficult during high winds, potentially compromising the safety of passengers and crew, which is always the highest priority.
As a consequence of the itinerary change, Monday, August 4, 2025, will become an additional day at sea. Instead of visiting the Shetland Islands, AIDAsol will now head to the port of Måløy in Norway on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. This port was not on the original schedule, thus representing a new destination for the passengers.
For the guests on board, this means that pre-booked shore excursions for Aberdeen and Lerwick will be automatically cancelled and refunded. Concurrently, AIDA Cruises will organize a new excursion program for the unscheduled stay in Måløy. From the call in Måløy onwards, the voyage is expected to continue as planned with visits to Bergen, Eidfjord, and Haugesund before AIDAsol returns to Hamburg on August 10.
Comparison of Itineraries:
- Original Itinerary: Hamburg – Sea Day – Newcastle upon Tyne – Aberdeen – Lerwick – Bergen – Eidfjord – Haugesund – Sea Day – Hamburg
- Adjusted Itinerary: Hamburg – Sea Day – Newcastle upon Tyne – Sea Day – Måløy – Bergen – Eidfjord – Haugesund – Sea Day – Hamburg
