A new strategic alliance between MEYER RE and Everllence is set to make the shipping industry more sustainable. The two companies have agreed on a far-reaching cooperation to advance the conversion of ships to operate on methanol. This collaboration marks a significant milestone on the path to decarbonizing the sector. The goal is to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions while ensuring the operational performance of fleets and compliance with current environmental regulations.

A central aspect of the collaboration is the retrofitting of existing Everllence four-stroke engines. This provides shipping companies with a viable and scalable alternative for switching to more environmentally friendly fuels. By combining their respective expertise, the partners aim to set new standards for sustainable operational processes in the maritime industry.

"This framework partnership agreement lays the foundation for a strong, trusting, and future-oriented collaboration on our joint path to a greener future," emphasizes Bernd Siebert, Head of Retrofit & Upgrade at Everllence. "With our methanol retrofit packages, we offer customers an economically attractive solution to make older engines future-proof. Together with MEYER RE, we will now develop a holistic concept for retrofitting the entire ship system."

The conversion of cruise ships, in particular, presents an immense challenge. Henning Jongebloed, Head of Sales at MEYER RE, explains the complexity: "Cruise ships function like small cities with highly complex subsystems. An engine replacement or a new fuel alone is not enough. A holistic approach is required. Therefore, collaboration with experienced partners is crucial to ensure the smooth functioning of the entire system, including power generation."

As part of their cooperation, the partners intend to develop a detailed roadmap. This will define the technical and operational steps for the transition to methanol as the primary fuel. The roadmap will cover ship modifications, the development of the necessary methanol bunkering infrastructure, and the establishment of industry-wide safety standards and best practices.

With this initiative, MEYER RE and Everllence present a clear strategy for the sustainable transformation of the shipping industry and reaffirm their commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.
