Passengers aboard the AIDAprima on its current Norway cruise are facing an itinerary alteration. Due to unspecified technical challenges, the cruise ship is unable to make its scheduled call at the Geirangerfjord tomorrow. The ship will divert to Alesund as a replacement port.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. On May 15 of this year, the vessel faced a similar situation where a visit to the famous fjord had to be canceled and rescheduled for a later date. The Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, has strict environmental regulations for visiting ships. AIDAprima was recently retrofitted with new technology to comply with these requirements. It is believed that the current difficulties, much like the incident in May, are related to the commissioning of this new system. An official confirmation of the exact cause from the cruise line is still pending. Onboard, the reason given was simply "technical challenges."

The cruise line has announced that it will provide an update tomorrow on whether the canceled call at Geiranger can be rescheduled for later in the week. This could potentially happen on Friday, August 1, 2025, provided the technical problems are resolved in time.

AIDAprima is currently on its "Norway's Fjords with Geiranger from Hamburg" voyage. The itinerary has so far taken guests to the ports of Flam, Haugesund, Maloy, and Molde after a day at sea. Tomorrow will now be spent in Alesund, a port of call that was originally scheduled for August 1.

Original Itinerary (July 24 - Aug 03, 2025): Hamburg – Sea Day – Flam – Haugesund – Maloy – Molde – Geiranger – Nordfjordeid – Alesund – Sea Day – Hamburg

Adjusted Itinerary (As of: July 29, 2025, 8:00 PM): Hamburg – Sea Day – Flam – Haugesund – Maloy – Molde – Alesund – Nordfjordeid – Alesund – Sea Day – Hamburg

UPDATE:

Encouraging news for the passengers aboard AIDAprima: The call at Geirangerfjord, considered by many guests to be the highlight of the Norway cruise, will now take place. Captain Felix Rothe shared this positive development with travelers on Wednesday morning, July 30, 2025.

To make this special destination possible, an adjustment to the current itinerary was necessary. The stop in Nordfjordeid, originally planned for the following day, will be canceled as a result. However, the passengers' delight at the opportunity to experience the famous fjord is expected to outweigh this change. After visiting Geiranger, AIDAprima will call on the city of Bergen as the final port before the return journey to Hamburg.

The current cruise, titled "Norway's Fjords with Geiranger from Hamburg," had already been affected by minor schedule changes. To manage logistical challenges, the call in Ålesund was moved to an earlier date. Following the stops already made in Flåm, Haugesund, Måløy, and Molde, the now-confirmed arrival in Geiranger is a welcome development.
