Effective July 1, 2025, a new mandatory fee will be implemented for cruise travelers in Greece. This levy, which can be up to €20 per guest per port day, is the country's response to the growing cruise tourism sector. The cruise line Costa Cruises has already informed its passengers on how it will manage the collection of this fee.

The amount of the levy is staggered and depends on the season and the specific port of call. The revenue generated is intended to be used specifically for improving local infrastructure, thereby directly benefiting the regions affected by tourism.

The process is designed to be straightforward for guests: Costa Cruises will charge the due amount directly to the onboard account before the end of the voyage. The cruise line will then transfer the total sum of these fees to the Greek authorities. The fee is applicable in all ports where passengers disembark. This includes the final disembarkation port at the end of the trip as well as any ports visited for day excursions. It does not matter whether the shore leave is part of an organized tour or undertaken independently.

Particularly during the current high season, numerous ships from various cruise lines are navigating the Aegean Sea and the Greek coast, highlighting the significance of this new regulation.

Detailed Overview of the Fee Structure:

  • High Season (June 1 – September 30):
    • Mykonos & Santorini: €20.00
    • All other ports: €5.00
  • Shoulder Season (October 1 – October 31 and April 1 – May 31):
    • Mykonos & Santorini: €12.00
    • All other ports: €3.00
  • Winter Season (November 1 – March 31):
    • Mykonos & Santorini: €4.00
    • All other ports: €1.00
