Richard Fain, a formative figure in the modern cruise industry, looks back on a 37-year career at the company's helm. After handing over his duties, he will remain on the board as a regular member, continuing to contribute his expertise.
The board of directors selected Liberty as Fain's successor. He has served as President and CEO of the Royal Caribbean Group since January 3, 2022. Concurrently, it was announced that John Brock, a board member since 2014, will assume the newly created role of Lead Independent Director. Brock previously chaired the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.
Statements on the Leadership Transition
Jason Liberty expressed his gratitude for being elected as the future Chairman: "Richard's leadership has been transformative. Under his guidance, Royal Caribbean Group has evolved into one of the world's leading vacation companies." He emphasized his commitment to continuing to provide guests with world-class vacation experiences and delivering long-term value to shareholders. "Fortunately, the company and I will continue to benefit from Richard's experience and mentorship in his ongoing capacity as a board member," Liberty added.
Richard Fain described the move as a logical step: "It is time to hand the helm of RCG over to the next generation of exceptional talent. I am very confident that under Jason's strong leadership, Royal Caribbean Group will achieve even greater heights in the years to come."
Liberty also praised John Brock's new role: "John Brock brings invaluable experience from his time as Chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola Enterprises and as CEO of InBev. His profound integrity will support our continued growth and corporate governance."
