During the passenger changeover on the Greek island of Corfu today, the water supply on AIDAblu was largely interrupted for several hours. The failure affected essential onboard facilities, including the sanitary systems and gastronomic areas. For instance, toilets were not flushing, and the preparation of hot beverages like coffee was temporarily unavailable.
The ship's command informed passengers of the situation via an announcement, assuring them that the crew was working at full pressure to find a swift solution. Around 2:45 PM local time, the water supply was fully restored.
Although such failures of the self-sufficient water supply on modern cruise ships are considered extremely rare, this is not the first incident of this kind for AIDAblu. A similar technical problem occurred three years ago, which at the time required spare parts to be flown in from Germany. Generally, cruise lines are able, through well-organized logistics partners, to deliver necessary spare parts to a ship's berth within Europe, often within a single day.
The incident occurred on a turnaround day. The ship is beginning a one-week cruise through the Adriatic Sea today. The itinerary will take it from Corfu to Trieste, Rijeka, Koper, Split, and Kotor, before the ship is expected back in Kerkyra (Corfu) on June 14, 2025.
Planned Itinerary from 06/07 to 06/14/2025: Kerkyra (Corfu) – Sea Day – Trieste – Rijeka – Koper – Split – Kotor – Kerkyra (Corfu)
