The cruise ship AIDAbella is forced to modify its current itinerary during its transatlantic crossing from the Caribbean to Hamburg due to an adverse weather warning. An approaching storm with strong winds and high waves is preventing the scheduled calls at Leixões near Porto (Portugal) and A Coruña in northwestern Spain. For safety reasons, both port stops have been cancelled. As an alternative, AIDAbella will now head to Vigo in the Spanish region of Galicia.
The original schedule had the vessel docking in Leixões on Easter Saturday, April 19th, and in A Coruña on Easter Sunday, April 20th. Due to the forecast weather conditions, AIDAbella is now expected to arrive in Vigo this Friday evening (April 18th). The ship will remain there for two nights, resuming its journey on Sunday once the weather conditions are anticipated to improve. The next scheduled port of call on this crossing is Cherbourg, France, on April 22nd, 2025, before the voyage concludes in Hamburg on April 24th.
Currently on board AIDAbella are guests who have booked various segments of the journey: a 25-day cruise originating from Martinique, a 19-day trip starting in La Romana, and a 9-day leg commencing from Gran Canaria. All these voyage segments will culminate together in Hamburg next Thursday. Subsequently, AIDAbella will transfer to Kiel, where she will initially operate short cruises at the beginning of the season, followed by 14-day Northern Europe itineraries.
According to information from AIDA Cruises, another vessel in the fleet, AIDAdiva, is also affected by itinerary adjustments in the region. It is anticipated that AIDAdiva will utilize the berth in Vigo on Sunday, April 20th, which AIDAbella will vacate. This is likely due to the inability of AIDAdiva to call at Leixões near Porto as planned on Easter Sunday.
The itinerary change affects the segment following the Canary Islands. Originally, after departing Arrecife (Lanzarote) and spending two days at sea, the ports of Leixões and A Coruña were scheduled. In the revised itinerary, the sea days are followed by the stay in Vigo from Friday evening until Sunday, before the journey continues towards Cherbourg after another day at sea.
