Miami – Norwegian Cruise Line's (NCL) newest vessel, the Norwegian Aqua, was officially christened on Sunday, April 13, 2025, during a festive ceremony at the NCL cruise terminal in Miami. Renowned actor Eric Stonestreet served as the ship's godfather. The event marked the second ship christening in the port city within a short period, following the christening of the MSC World America by actress Drew Barrymore on April 9th.

The christening ceremony, a time-honored maritime tradition, took place with over 2,000 invited guests in attendance. Following the blessing of the ship, which officially marks the beginning of its service at sea, a special appearance by two-time Emmy® Award winner and godfather Eric Stonestreet was a highlight. Attendees were also treated to a preview of NCL's original production "Revolution: A Celebration of Prince," a concert experience honoring the musician Prince, offering a glimpse into the onboard entertainment.

Eric Stonestreet expressed his enthusiasm: "As a newcomer to cruising with a deep passion for travel, it's absolutely spectacular to see the fantastic offerings and experiences travelers and their families can enjoy aboard Norwegian Aqua, including the world's first hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide, the Aqua Slidecoaster! The Norwegian Cruise Line team, both onboard and ashore, is the best of the best, and it's an honor to be the godfather of the beautiful Norwegian Aqua. As part of the NCL family, I can't wait for our guests to 'Experience More at Sea' with NCL and create unforgettable memories with their families, just like I look forward to doing with mine!"

The ceremony culminated in the traditional breaking of a champagne bottle against the ship's hull, initiated by Stonestreet. This custom is believed to bring good fortune to the ship and all aboard, ensuring safe voyages throughout its lifespan.

During the festivities, NCL President David J. Herrera also announced extensive upgrades for the private island destination, Great Stirrup Cay in The Bahamas. The first new attractions are set to open later this year, coinciding with the completion of a new pier capable of accommodating multiple ships simultaneously. Plans include a spacious pool area with comfortable loungers, a swim-up bar, a splash zone, and a heated pool.

Norwegian Aqua's first regular cruise departing from a U.S. port is scheduled to commence on April 16, 2025, from Miami. This follows preliminary voyages with media representatives and invited guests in Europe, as well as a bookable transatlantic crossing. The latter began on March 28, 2025, in Southampton and required significant adjustments due to weather conditions. Instead of the originally planned first U.S. call in Boston on April 4th, the ship arrived in New York City on April 7th, extending the journey for passengers by three days.

However, these prior disruptions did not affect the christening schedule, as no further voyages were planned before the event. Norwegian Aqua arrived at its christening port of Miami ahead of schedule on April 11, 2025, and returned punctually for the ceremony after a brief outing on April 12th.

Over the next few years, Norwegian Aqua will operate various itineraries departing from U.S. ports. From April to August 2025, weekly Caribbean cruises are scheduled from/to Port Canaveral. Subsequently, from August to October 2025, the ship will sail to Bermuda from/to New York City. The newbuild will spend its inaugural winter season operating week-long Caribbean itineraries from/to Miami.
