The difficulties became apparent during the journey from Corfu to Bari. The vessel arrived at the Italian port late on Saturday evening, significantly later than the originally scheduled arrival time of 8:00 AM. Reportedly, the MSC Sinfonia was traveling at a greatly reduced speed of only about 4 knots at times during this leg, making it impossible to adhere to the schedule.
As a result of these events, MSC Cruises was forced to cancel the cruise scheduled to depart from Bari on Saturday less than 24 hours before its planned start. This cancellation affects not only passengers who were scheduled to board in Bari but also guests with different embarkation or disembarkation ports, a common practice in MSC Cruises' itinerary planning.
As compensation for the inconvenience, MSC Cruises is offering affected guests a full refund of the fare paid. Additionally, they will receive a future cruise credit (FCC) of the same value for a future booking with the cruise line.
Currently (as of April 13, 2025), the MSC Sinfonia remains docked in the port of Bari. Technicians are working intensively to identify and resolve the issue. How long the repair work will take is currently unclear and depends on the extent of the technical defect.
The cancelled itinerary for April 12-19, 2025, included the following ports: Bari – Sea Day – Piraeus/Athens – Izmir – Istanbul – Sea Day – Kerkyra (Corfu) – Bari.
