The ceremonial highlight was the ship's naming by internationally renowned actress Drew Barrymore. Following maritime tradition, she triggered the mechanism that smashed the champagne bottle against the bow of the new vessel. Actor Orlando Bloom also attended the ceremony; earlier this year, he co-starred with Barrymore in an MSC Cruises advertising campaign broadcast on US television.
Drew Barrymore, also known as the host of her own show, commented on her role as godmother: "It is a great honor to serve as the godmother of MSC World America. My passion for travel has been with me my entire life – it inspires me and has given me unforgettable memories. Millions of people will create their own beautiful memories aboard this ship. I am certain that guests will fully enjoy everything MSC World America has to offer."
Following the naming ceremony, invited guests were treated to a gala dinner and various entertainment acts. An elaborate drone and fireworks spectacular over the Miami skyline concluded the celebratory evening.
MSC World America is the second vessel in MSC Cruises' innovative World Class. It is poised to usher in a new era of cruising, combining pioneering ship technology with diverse entertainment, dining, and design concepts.
MSC World America will embark on her first scheduled cruise on April 12, 2025. The ship will spend her inaugural season in the Caribbean, based out of Miami. It will offer alternating 7-night itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Ports of call include Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, San Juan in Puerto Rico, Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, and the island of Roatán in Honduras. A visit to the cruise line's private island reserve, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, is also a fixed component of every voyage.
