Weather Conditions Force AIDAperla Route Adjustment: Vigo Replaces Porto
Following the conclusion of its winter season in the Caribbean, AIDAperla is currently on its repositioning voyage back to Europe. An unexpected weather development now necessitates a short-notice change to the planned route en route to Hamburg. As Captain Pedro Ziegler communicated on Wednesday, due to a strong wind forecast, the cruise ship will not call at Leixões (the port for Porto, Portugal) as scheduled tomorrow, Friday, April 4th, 2025. Instead, AIDAperla will dock at the Spanish port of Vigo.

Today, Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, AIDAperla's stay in Lisbon is proceeding according to plan. Following departure from the Portuguese capital, the journey is expected to continue towards Spain, potentially at a slightly increased speed to maintain the adjusted schedule. Vigo is located geographically somewhat north of Porto, where adverse wind conditions are expected on Friday, which would complicate safe docking. The subsequent port call scheduled for Saturday, April 5th, 2025, in La Coruna, also in Spain's northwestern Galicia region, remains unaffected by this route change and will take place as planned.

For passengers onboard, this adjustment means a change to the shore excursion program. All shore excursions previously booked for Porto are being cancelled free of charge by AIDA Cruises, and passengers will receive full refunds. Concurrently, the cruise line is working to arrange an attractive new selection of excursion options for the substitute port of Vigo. The city on Spain's Atlantic coast is known for its charming city center and its location amidst impressive natural landscapes. Furthermore, Vigo serves as a starting point for excursions to the renowned pilgrimage site of Santiago de Compostela.

AIDAperla's current journey is the final leg of its transatlantic crossing from the Caribbean to Hamburg, which has been underway since March 2025 and was offered in various bookable segments. This concluding leg started in Tenerife, charting a course via the Canary Islands, Lisbon, now Vigo and La Coruna, and Le Havre (France), culminating in the destination port of Hamburg, where the ship is expected on April 9th, 2025. This arrival marks the beginning of AIDAperla's 2025 summer season in Northern Europe. The ship will operate weekly cruises from Hamburg, covering the 'Metropolis Route' as well as voyages to the Norwegian fjords. Passenger changeovers will take place every Saturday at the Cruise Center Steinwerder until October 25th, 2025.
