Starting from Wednesday evening, February 26, 2025, until Friday evening, February 28, 2025, the trade union ver.di has called for a 48-hour warning strike. Employees of the airport operator, as well as workers in maintenance, IT services, airport security, passenger handling, and baggage handling, are affected. The union aims to draw attention to its demands in the ongoing wage dispute.

Potential Disruptions to Air Traffic

The strike could lead to significant disruptions in flight operations. Travelers are advised to regularly check the status of their flights. Particularly affected are individual cruise passengers traveling to or from their ships, who may need to arrange alternative transportation independently. Cruise passengers who booked their flights through the cruise line will be informed directly by the operator or the airline in case of any changes.

Aviation Security Staff Not Participating in the Strike

Employees responsible for aviation security, who handle passenger and staff checks at airport and aircraft access points, are not participating in the strike. However, the impact of the strike may still be felt, as other critical areas such as baggage handling and passenger services are affected.

Current Information for Travelers

Hamburg Airport has already provided updates on its website, advising passengers to monitor their flight status regularly. In case of questions or uncertainties, travelers should contact their airline directly. Tour operator TUI has also informed its customers flying from Hamburg to their holiday destinations about the potential effects of the strike.

Travelers can stay informed about the latest developments through the official channels of airports and airlines to prepare as effectively as possible for any changes.
