In the previous year, 2024, the Port of Kiel recorded 184 calls and welcomed 1.1 million passengers. Despite fewer calls planned for 2025, the port expects to surpass the one-million-passenger mark once again. Regular visitors this season will include AIDAnova, AIDAbella, Costa Diadema, Mein Schiff 1, Mein Schiff 7, and MSC Euribia, many of which will be stationed in Kiel during the summer months.
A key focus remains the use of shore power to reduce emissions while ships are docked. In 2024, the port achieved a 70% connection rate, and in 2025, this is expected to increase to 80%. Approximately half of the seagoing cruise ships calling at Kiel have already used shore power in previous seasons. This allows them to switch off their engines during their stay, significantly contributing to emission reduction.
The Port of Kiel is equipped with shore power facilities at all ferry and cruise terminals, currently supplying 60% of calls with renewable electricity. An expansion of the shore power capacity at the Ostseekai, one of Kiel’s two major cruise terminals, is currently under construction. From autumn 2025, this upgrade will enable the simultaneous supply of two cruise ships with shore power, further advancing the port’s sustainability initiatives.
With these developments, the Port of Kiel continues to focus on growth and sustainability in the cruise industry, maintaining its position as a key destination for cruise ships in the region.
