Additionally, Meyer Werft is planning another ship for 2028, specifically designed for the Japanese market. Unlike the other ships, this vessel will not be operated by Disney Cruise Line but by Oriental Land Company Limited, which will run it under a Disney license. This LNG-powered ship is scheduled to enter service in early 2029.
Between 2029 and 2031, Meyer Werft will deliver one ship per year from a newly designed class to Disney Cruise Line. This new generation of cruise ships is still in development and will have a gross tonnage of 100,000 GT and accommodate around 3,000 passengers, making it slightly smaller than the current new builds. Instead of relying on the widely used LNG technology, Disney Cruise Line is exploring the use of biofuels and synthetic fuels, provided these are available in sufficient quantities at competitive prices.
With this new class of ships, the cruise line aims to serve smaller departure ports and destinations that are inaccessible to larger ships like Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream (each around 130,000 GT), or the Triton-class vessels (approximately 145,000 GT). Within the fleet, only Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, built in the 1990s and each with a gross tonnage of 84,000 GT, will have similar dimensions to the new class.
Meyer Werft Delivery Schedule:
- 2025: Disney Destiny (Triton Class)
- 2027: Unnamed Ship (Triton Class 4)
- 2028: Unnamed Ship (Triton Class 5, Oriental Land Company Limited)
- 2029: First Ship of the New Class
- 2030: Second Ship of the New Class
- 2031: Third Ship of the New Class
