"Miss Merkel: Murder on the High Seas" – Filming Begins on Mein Schiff 5

The Mein Schiff 5, part of the Hamburg-based cruise line TUI Cruises, has become the set for a new film project: filming for "Murder on the High Seas," the third installment of the "Miss Merkel" mystery series, begins today. Leading the cast is Katharina Thalbach, joined by other actors and a large production team. The goal is to wrap up filming within the next four weeks.

Between January 9 and February 6, 2025, the production may cause temporary disruptions onboard, such as short-term closures of certain areas. However, passengers on these cruises have the unique chance to witness a film production up close. During this period, Mein Schiff 5 will be sailing on its one-week "Canary Islands with Madeira" route.

"Murder on the High Seas" marks another instance of a TUI Cruises ship serving as a film set, following the RTL series "The Ship’s Doctor." In this new film, the former chancellor-turned-detective takes on a murder case aboard a cruise ship. The story is based on the third book of the successful series by author David Safier. The 90-minute film is slated for release later this year on RTL and the streaming platform RTL+.
