Maintenance and Modernization: Insights into AIDAnova’s Dry Dock Stay in Rotterdam

The second newest cruise ship of the Rostock-based AIDA Cruises fleet, AIDAnova, underwent a scheduled dry dock stay in Rotterdam from November 13 to December 2, 2024. The maintenance and upgrades took place at Damen Shiprepair’s dry dock, where extensive work was carried out. AIDA Cruises shared an eight-minute video on their official YouTube channel, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the refurbishment.

Extensive Renovation Work and New Features

The primary focus of the dry dock period was on routine maintenance and targeted renovations. Several enhancements were made to the ship’s public areas, including the expansion of the pool bar and ice bar. Additionally, the Fuego Restaurant now features Best Pizza@Sea. In passenger areas, seating furniture was reupholstered, mattresses were replaced, and new flooring was installed.

Technical Upgrades for Enhanced Efficiency

The technical updates centered on maintenance and efficiency improvements. The electric Azipod propulsion system, IT infrastructure, and water-saving tunnel washers in the onboard laundry were all upgraded to the latest standards. Moreover, AIDAnova received a fresh coat of paint covering an impressive 31,000 square meters.

Winter Wonderland Onboard AIDAnova

Since December 2, 2024, AIDAnova has resumed service for guests. To celebrate the holiday season, the ship has been transformed into a winter wonderland with festive decorations, special lighting, and other seasonal touches. This winter, AIDAnova offers three alternating weekly itineraries: “Metropolises from Hamburg,” “Southern Norway from Hamburg,” and “Norway and Denmark from Hamburg.”

Following its dry dock stay, AIDAnova not only boasts the latest technical enhancements but also features numerous new highlights to ensure an unforgettable cruising experience for its guests.
