Disney Cruise Line revolutionizes ship christening: 200,000 employees as godparents of the new Disney Treasure

Disney Cruise Line has taken a unique step in the history of ship christenings: over 200,000 of the company's employees worldwide will act as godparents for the newest ship, the Disney Treasure. The christening ceremony is scheduled for next Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in New York City and will be livestreamed worldwide.

The event will mark the official unveiling of the Meyer Werft-built ship, which will be attended by a host of iconic Disney characters. What makes this naming ceremony stand out is that hundreds of thousands of Disney Group employees will act as godparents rather than a single personality, with many of them joining in digitally.

The Disney Treasure is currently being prepared in the port of Port Canaveral, Florida, where it is being inspected by the US Coast Guard. The traditional plaque presentation ceremony took place shortly before departure for New York. Following the christening, the ship will be based for cruises in the Caribbean, starting with week-long itineraries and a schedule that includes voyages to the Western and Eastern Caribbean until spring 2026.
