For safety reasons, the port stop in Lüderitz will therefore be canceled and the AIDAstella will instead spend November 5, 2024 at sea as it moves towards Cape Town. The captain of the cruise ship has announced that he will provide guests with further details on the circumstances of the route change later today.
To compensate for the omission of Lüderitz, the AIDAstella will remain in port in Walvis Bay, Namibia, longer than planned on Monday, November 4, 2024. Originally scheduled to depart at 18:00, the ship will now only leave at 22:00. Passengers can expect rough seas on the following November 5 and 6, as the coastal region of Africa will have to contend with increased swell due to the storm. The ship is still scheduled to arrive in Cape Town on Thursday, November 7, 2024.
The AIDAstella is currently being transferred from the western Mediterranean to the winter region of Asia. For the first time this fall, the route will go south around Africa, as the security situation in the Red Sea is considered too critical. The voyage will take place in three sections, with stops in the ports of Palma de Mallorca, Cape Town, Dubai and finally Laem Chabang near Bangkok.
