The MSC Grandiosa has been out of service since Sunday for a scheduled shipyard stay in Malta. Her last voyage in the western Mediterranean for the 2024 summer season ended in the port of Livorno. All guests disembarked there before the cruise ship set course for the Palumbo Shipyard, a shipyard that is regularly used for maintenance work on the MSC fleet.

During the approximately two-and-a-half-week stay, various maintenance and repair work is carried out on the ship. Technical areas of the ship will be comprehensively checked and serviced. In the guest areas, carpets may be replaced and minor embellishment work carried out. The shipping company has not disclosed any information about major refurbishments or renovations.

The MSC Grandiosa, which was christened in Hamburg on November 9, 2019, belongs to the Meraviglia class and is the first ship in the expanded Meraviglia Plus class. The Grandiosa is slightly larger than its predecessors and, with five years of service, is now being inspected by the responsible classification society for safety and functional aspects. The focus here is particularly on safety-relevant systems.

During the summer season, the MSC Grandiosa traveled the western Mediterranean, with stops in Marseille, Barcelona, La Goulette near Tunis, Palermo in Sicily, Naples and Livorno. Following the completion of maintenance work in Malta, the ship will set sail from Genoa on November 16, 2024 on a transatlantic route to the South American winter cruise area.
