On Thursday, October 24, 2024, Royal Caribbean International's Oasis of the Seas will set sail from the port of Barcelona for her two-week transatlantic cruise. After an eventful summer season in which the ship completed weekly cruises in the Western Mediterranean and a recent stay at the Navantia shipyard in Cádiz, the 15-year-old flagship of the Oasis class is now turning its back on Europe.

Since the end of September, the Oasis of the Seas has been in dry dock at the Navantia shipyard for scheduled maintenance and refurbishment work. On Monday, October 21, 2024, the ship completed its stay at the shipyard and returned to active service. Royal Caribbean International did not announce any major innovations on board, so the work was mainly focused on the ship's technology.

The Oasis of the Seas will now embark on a two-week Atlantic crossing to Fort Lauderdale in Florida. There, the cruise ship will operate Caribbean routes in the coming years. According to the maintenance regulations, the ship must return to the shipyard in five years at the latest in order to maintain its updated classification.

Royal Caribbean International has now made it a tradition to send an Oasis-class ship to the Mediterranean every year. Following the Oasis of the Seas' European season this year, its younger sister ship, Allure of the Seas, will take over the summer cruises in the Western Mediterranean in 2025. In spring 2025, Allure of the Seas will undergo a number of modernizations and new offerings on board as part of the Amplification Program.
