AIDA Cruises has announced the largest modernization project in the company's history to date: the AIDA Evolution. As part of this project, extensive new features and conversions are being carried out on the fleet. Just last week, new restaurants and bars were announced on the AIDAdiva and its sister ships. However, some existing areas of the Sphinx-class ships will also have to make way in the course of these refurbishments.

A new “gourmet mile” will be created at the rear of deck 11, which will include the Tokyo Signature Bar, an Asian restaurant and the popular French Kiss. The gourmet restaurant Rossini will be used as a suite lounge during the day, which has already been confirmed. What will happen to the Beach Bar and the “Best Pizza at Sea” on deck 11 remains to be seen. What is certain, however, is that the Italian buffet restaurant Bella Vista will have to make way for the new gourmet mile.

Several changes are also already planned for deck 10. Space has to be made for the French Kiss Bar & Bistro at the front of the deck, and there is speculation that the casino will be replaced here. However, the biggest change on deck 10 will be the new “Yacht Club” buffet restaurant, which will take over the previous location of the Weite Welt restaurant, which will be removed as part of the redesigns. The outdoor area of the restaurant at the stern of deck 10 will be reduced in size or possibly disappear completely due to the new Lanai Bar.

On deck 9, the Tapas Bar will take over the previous location of the Sushi Bar. This will establish a comprehensive Asian concept in combination with the new Asian restaurant on deck 11.

Two new stern suites will be created in each of the cabin areas on decks 6, 7 and 8. Two balcony cabins will be combined for this purpose. After the AIDA Evolution, there will only be suites at both the bow and stern, no balcony cabins. These new suites offer space for up to four guests and have separate living and sleeping areas, two bathrooms and spacious balconies.

Despite these extensive redesigns, no particularly popular areas on the AIDAdiva and its sister ships will disappear. Rather, existing guest areas will be upgraded with various new features. For example, AIDA Cruises is planning to offer more sit-down service in the restaurants following the evolution. Even if the Weite Welt buffet restaurants on deck 10 and Bella Vista on deck 11 disappear, the improvements to the Sphinx-class ships are an attractive compensation. Only the future deck plans of the AIDAdiva will provide more precise information about which areas will finally no longer be available after the AIDA Evolution.
