On June 29, 2026, Royal Caribbean's new mega cruise ship, the "Legend of the Seas", embarked on its highly anticipated maiden voyage from Málaga. The port in Andalusia had previously undergone extensive modifications to handle the immense dimensions of the fleet's newest addition. A spectacular fireworks display bid farewell to the ocean liner late in the evening as it began its first journey into the Mediterranean. The roughly 365-meter-long Icon-class ship can accommodate up to 7,600 guests and sets entirely new standards in modern shipping.

On board, passengers can expect a clever layout divided into eight different zones, the so-called "Neighborhoods". These ensure that the large number of people on board is well distributed, preventing long wait times. Absolute highlights include the gigantic water park on "Thrill Island", the spectacular glass-covered "AquaDome", and the "Central Park", where tens of thousands of real plants grow. Culinary offerings are also abundant, such as the innovative "Royal Railway" experience restaurant, which is modeled after a historical train carriage. For particularly affluent guests, the three-story "Ultimate Family Townhouse" is available.

Technologically, the "Legend of the Seas" is also state-of-the-art. An LNG propulsion system, intelligent waste heat recovery systems, and shore power capabilities in port are designed to keep the ecological footprint as small as possible. Throughout the summer, the ship will be sailing the western Mediterranean, calling at popular ports such as Rome and Barcelona. In late autumn, it will cross the Atlantic to head for sunny Caribbean destinations, including the cruise line's private island CocoCay, during the winter season.
