The vessel arrived early in the morning at around 05:30 AM, mooring at the container terminal (Konttisatama). As this area is located outside the main district, local municipal authorities, in close cooperation with the tourism organization VisitKotkaHamina, established a continuous public shuttle service. Between 08:00 AM and 06:00 PM, buses operated non-stop to transport guests safely to the historic city center, located 2.5 kilometers away. For pedestrian safety, the central Town Hall Square (Raatihuoneentori) was completely closed to vehicular traffic.
The local shore programme aimed to showcase the town's maritime and historic identity to the predominantly German guests. A bilingual information hub was set up directly in front of the neo-Gothic St. John's Church, distributing city maps and brochures in German. Enjoying perfect summer weather with temperatures reaching 19 °C, passengers explored the town via traditional horse-drawn carriage rides or visited a flea market in Trykini Park, which featured regional pastries and Finnish handicrafts. Local museums and retailers flexibly adjusted their opening hours to align with the ship's port times.
The successful call in Hamina marks the core segment of a week-long Baltic cruise for M/S AIDAdiva. The voyage commenced on June 13, 2026, in the German seaside resort of Warnemünde. Following a stop in nearby Helsinki the previous day and today's visit to Hamina, the cruise ship will set sail late this evening through the Archipelago Sea. The itinerary will proceed as scheduled via Tallinn and Stockholm, before concluding back in Warnemünde on June 20.
