The Carnival Corporation and its subsidiary, Carnival Cruise Line (CCL), have been honored with the prestigious "Sustainable Century Awards 2026" by the Port of Seattle. This recognition highlights the cruise giant's extensive commitment to a more environmentally friendly and sustainable maritime economy.

Carnival Cruise Line secured the "Environmental Innovation Award" for its pioneering "Our Sea Pledge" program. The centerpiece of this success is the drastic reduction of food waste by more than half—from about 1.23 to 0.58 kilograms per passenger. In addition, state-of-the-art bio-digesters are used on board. Single-use plastics and glass bottles are also massively reduced through efficient recycling loops.

The parent company, Carnival Corporation, received the "Environmental Performance Award" for its active contribution to the protection of endangered orcas. By voluntarily participating in the "Quiet Sound" program, the ships reduce their speed in sensitive coastal waters. This not only significantly minimizes underwater noise for marine life but also directly lowers fuel consumption and the associated emissions.

Anyone standing at the rail today, looking out at the ocean from starboard or port, should be able to do so in an intact environment in the future. Carnival's efforts demonstrate that a 38 percent reduction in greenhouse gases since 2008 is achievable, and the global goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 is being consistently pursued. These recent awards prove that modern seafaring and ambitious environmental protection can indeed chart a shared course.
