Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is opening the brand-new "Great Tides Waterpark" on its private island, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, on September 4, 2026. Pre-sales for day passes and exclusive cabanas have already begun. The Norwegian Luna, setting sail from Miami in late August, will be the first ship in the fleet to bring guests to this new premier attraction right in time for the opening.

The infrastructural foundation for this massive project is a new $150 million pier. Completed in late 2025, it allows two large cruise ships to dock simultaneously, completely independent of the weather. This eliminates the unpredictable tendering process, greatly increasing operational reliability. Additionally, a new island tram system ensures comfortable transportation across the expansive destination.

Spanning nearly six hectares, the waterpark features a total of 19 slides divided into four distinct zones. The centerpiece is the 170-foot "Tidal Tower," boasting high-speed water coasters and a convenient conveyor belt for inner tubes. Other highlights include "Cliffside Cove" with cliff jumps and a family slide, the fast-flowing "Wandering River" with a built-in bar, and "Splash Cay," a paradise designed specifically for younger guests.

When it comes to pricing, NCL utilizes a clear strategy: General access to the island and the massive, newly constructed "Great Life Lagoon" pool area is included in the cruise fare. However, the waterpark requires an additional ticket. On the plus side, the "Free at Sea" beverage package is valid at the waterpark's bars. It is important to note that shore excursion credits cannot be used for standard waterpark admission; they can only be applied toward the luxurious, dynamically priced private cabanas.

With this substantial expansion of its private island, NCL is strongly countering competitors like Royal Caribbean and Carnival. The transformation into a fully integrated, highly profitable resort experience perfectly engages various demographics, significantly boosts per-passenger revenue, and cements NCL's market position in the Caribbean for the long term.
