There is a fresh breeze for all cruise fans! On May 26, 2026, the time had finally come: the traditional Italian shipyard Fincantieri in Ancona officially handed over its latest masterpiece, the "Viking Mira", to Viking Cruises. With space for 998 guests and a gross tonnage of 54,300 (GT), it belongs to a slightly larger, new class of ships. The great thing about it is that it remains true to its exclusive "Small Ship" character. Whether you are standing to starboard or port on your own veranda—every single one of the 499 cabins offers a private outdoor area and the perfect ocean view.

By the way, the reason for the ship's slight growth in size is due to stricter international safety regulations, the so-called SOLAS guidelines. In order to double-secure the technology on board, the ship had to be built a little longer and wider. For guests, this means even more space and the familiar, relaxed Scandinavian design. Viking continues to stick to its "The Thinking Person’s Cruise" concept: if you are looking for noisy water parks or casinos, you are in the wrong place. Instead, there is a massive library, pure relaxation, and all-inclusive offerings for guests aged 18 and over.

When it comes to environmental protection, the "Viking Mira" is also a true pioneer. It is built to be completely "Hydrogen-Ready." This means it can easily be retrofitted later to run on liquid hydrogen and fuel cells. This makes the ship perfectly prepared to glide completely emission-free through sensitive natural regions like the Norwegian fjords in the future. Its maiden voyage begins on June 5, 2026, near Rome and travels through the western Mediterranean before the ship sets course for Northern Europe for the peak summer season.
